EMDR
EMDR stands for eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing and is best known as a treatment for trauma and PTSD. It is recognised by NICE and WHO for a treatment for PTSD. It can also be helpful for a wide range of emotional and physical difficulties including depression, pain, anxiety, phobias, traumatic grief and functional neurological disorder.
Polyvagal informed therapy
Polyvagal informed therapy emphasises the role that autonomic nervous system plays in our emotional and physiological health. By understanding our biology better through the polyvagal lens, we can become more aware of what leads us to feel stressed and overwhelmed (dysregulated), and importantly, what takes us into safety and connection (regulated). From there we are better able to manage our emotional and physical health, through a range of exercises and practices, both in the therapy room and between sessions.
EFT
EFT or “tapping” is a body/mind method that involves tapping with fingertips on acupressure points on the face and body. It can be a simple self help technique to manage stress and difficult emotions. EFT can help the body feel more regulated and safe when focussing on difficult, painful or challenging experiences. In this way, EFT can help us approach our difficulties instead of pushing them away or avoid them.
CFT
CFT brings together a broad range of theories including attachment, evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, mindfulness and compassion. It is a practical therapy with a focus on skills and practices to support the development of a more compassionate mind. It is also relational and central to this approach is a curiosity to what has shaped us in who we are today, taking consideration of the social, cultural, historical and political context in which we live. This approach is particularly helpful for those struggling with self-criticism, perfectionism, anxiety & depression.
