Neuro-affirmative practice

Neuro-affirmative therapy

As a late diagnosed autistic, and mother to two autistic daughters, Tanya is passionate about providing therapy that embodies the principles of the neuro-diversity affirmative framework. In her personal and professional life, she has found it helpful to have this neuro-affirmative lens when working on our emotional and physical health, that respects and values our neurodiversity without trying to change or “fix” who we are. From this standpoint we can then learn to live with greater awareness and acceptance. Experiencing the world differently from the neuro-normative way of being, can lead autistic and other neurodivergent individuals to face certain challenges and stresses throughout their life, including discrimination, the impact of masking and developmental trauma. Tanya believes therapy should take account of our differences and be tailored to our own unique circumstances and context.
