About

Tanya has 20 years experience working as a counselling psychologist across a range of mental health settings in the NHS since 2005. This includes working in a Primary care mental health service, CMHT’s, a Crisis Intervention Service, Psychological Therapies Service and a COVID staff support service. She has also worked in Higher Education in a staff counselling service at UEA. Tanya works primarily with individuals but also has experience of running mindfulness based cognitive therapy groups and compassion based group programs.

Tanya was diagnosed Autistic at the age of 44 years old, after learning she was autistic in her journey to better understand her twin daughters who are both autistic/PDA. Her own experience of being autistic as well as caring for her daughters, means she has a good understanding of the needs of neurodivergent individuals but she is far from being an “expert”. However, learning about autism is one of her passions and she is particularly interested in the experience of trauma and stress for autistic individuals and what can support people on their journey to a better understanding of themselves and greater acceptance.

When Tanya is not working or caring for her daughters, she enjoys swimming in rivers, sauna, dancing and listening to music. Tanya works part time, balancing being a parent-carer to her daughters, and also lives with a chronic autoimmune condition and has a particular interest in exploring how psychological therapy can help with physical health conditions.
